Gather the Souls to ye breast- poem

They lay in hip deep mud
Sprawled in no-man’s land
By wars, maimed, and battered
Our young men, who will never grow old

In flowers the color of blood
Passed from a Veteran’s hand
We honour the souls sequestered
Like freedoms, to our breast we hold
